Respect to Architects:Nike Air Max Story

The designer of the Air Max shoes Tinker Hatfield which is an architect originally, tells the story of air max.

He was inspired by Centre Pompidou in Paris that all the technical components and infrastructural elements of the building was visible from outside. He designed the Air Max cushion visible from outside and colored like the colorful pipes in Pompidou.
He thought making the airbags visible would help people to understand the air technology better. Also they were increasing the volume of airbags and the space it needs was getting larger, so they let it free.

Tinker Hatfield starts at Nike in 1981 as an architect and first years he designs new stores for Nike. Then company asks him to design shoes. Some of the Air Jordan series (3,4,15,20) and world's first cross training shoes "air trainer" belongs to him.
